Their big heroes today were Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath, who combined to reduce South Africa to 51 for 6 in the morning session – they were eventually bowled out for 126 – and that man Dimuth Karunaratne, who followed up his unbeaten first-innings hundred with a superb 60 off 80 balls, looking like he was batting at the Premadasa in 1997 rather than Galle in 2018.
Keshav Maharaj was disappointing in the first innings, but he was far more consistent today and, as a result, far more incisive. He’s picked up three excellent wickets, and could still limit Sri Lanka to a lead of less than 350 if he picks up a few more tomorrow morning. Either way, it’s a steep uphill climb for South Africa. Floats it across Roshen, pitches it outside off, and gets it to dip and turn back in. Looks to whip it with the turn, leaves a big gap between bat and pad, and it spins through that gap and bounces over off stump

Maharaj to Silva, no run, gone, is it? Did it carry to slip? Lovely flight, angling into middle and leg, and the angle opened up Roshen as he came forward to defend, aiming towards mid-on. Dipped and spun to take the outside edge, but fell just short of Amla tumbling to his left
Rabada to Mathews, FOUR runs, this one goes the other way, a slight bit of movement away after pitching on a good length outside off. Throws his hands at it, away from his body, and the thick edge flies to the third man boundary. No gully – could have been interesting had there been one
I have a feeling Rabada’s getting a tiny bit of reverse now.
