Democrat trolls GOP with tweet comparing tax plan to unicorns

What do unicorns and Tupac conspiracy theories have in common with the GOP tax plan? According to Sen. Chris Murphy, they’re all invented by people with a bent for fallacies.

“Unicorns are real. Tupac is still alive. Borrowing money to pay for tax cuts for the rich shrinks the deficit,” the Connecticut senator tweeted on Friday afternoon along with a sparkly image of a unicorn.

Murphy’s trolling tweet came one day after the Joint Committee on Taxation released an analysis debunking a Republican claim that the tax bill would boost the economy so much that its proposed tax cuts would pay for themselves. The tax plan would actually add $1 trillion to the national debt, according to the JCT report.

The contentious tax bill, which has been trumpeted by the President, could be up for a vote Friday night.

GOP Senators have scrambled to rewrite the bill over the past few days in order to court a handful of Republican holdouts.

On Friday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that enough of his colleagues were finally onboard with the bill, which proposes to slash taxes for corporations and the rich.

“We have the votes,” McConnell told reporters after emerging from a closed-door meeting with his fellow Republican Senators.

Sen. Murphy and several other Democrats lambasted the Republicans over not involving them in the rewriting process.

“I was just handed a 479-page tax bill a few hours before the vote,” Democratic Montana Sen. Jon Tester tweeted. “One page literally has hand scribbled policy changes on it that can’t be read. This is Washington, D.C. at its worst.”
