10.35pm And that’s that. The umpires have said it’s stumps. Just the 46.3 overs of cricket on the opening day of the Day-Night Test. From a position of 24 for 4, West Indies have clawed their way back into the game thanks to a dogged effort from Shane Dowrich, in the company of Shai Hope and Jason Holder. For Sri Lanka, it’s once again back to the drawing board. They were in a similar position in the first Test, only to get hammered in that game as the match progressed. How will they stop Dowrich and his lower-order resistance? We’ll find out in a few hours. Till then, it’s goodbye.
morvin williams: “If play is called off technically speaking which is correct, should we call it a day or a night?”
Udee: “How’s lakmals captaincy going? Is he aggressive? ” — Nothing special. The rain breaks have deprived him of displaying his captaincy skills though.
10.20pm Yep, still raining. I’ll be very surprised if we have any more play today.
michael: “@WYS. Dowrich has hit a vein of form with the bat but during his career to date he has dropped 20 – 30 % of the chances that came his way. WI lost matches and series because of that. Cricinfo should keep track of keeper’s stats. “
Sai: “For a start Dowrich has not yet made any statement to the great Sir Viv”
WYS: “Dowrich has done more in this series than Ramdin’s whole career”
Dankuda Banda: “Kumara has said in a local interview* that he is very much inspired by Dale Steyn. For me he has a touch of resemblance to Steyn both interms of action, style and aggressiveness. If he can even come even close to legend Steyn, would be exciting days for Sri Lankan cricket.
10.12pm It’s been that kinda evening, hasn’t it. The players walk off once again. A light drizzle, say the commentators on TV. Hopefully the break won’t be for too long.
Rajitha to Holder, no run, stands tall, and drives this expansively to cover. And more rain!
