A mother who returned home after six years travelling the world with her son has demanded the woman she left her dog with give the pooch back.
Ruth Johnston, from Adelaide, has taken Shanee Hope to court over Maltese shih tzu-cross, Coco, who was given to her son for Christmas in 2010.
Despite leaving Coco for six-and-a-half years, Ms Johnston claimed she always intended on returning to Australia to reclaim her.

Ms Hope, however, denied her claims and argued she would never have accepted Coco had she known she had to give her up some time in the future.
‘I would never have agreed to pet-sit as I get attached too easily. It’s why I don’t foster a greyhound. There was nothing that made me think, at any time, that this was a temporary situation,’ she told Adelaide Now.
Ms Johnston and her son returned to Australia in March after traveling to 73 countries – a journey documented closely on her website Exploramum.
She has filed papers with Adelaide Magistrates Court and demanded Coco be returned immediately, also requesting Ms Hope pay $6,558 in costs.
She claimed she decided to leave Coco with Ms Hope in 2012 after meeting her mother through a church group.

Ms Hope said Coco had become close friends with her other dog, Beau, and had grown used to sleeping in a bed next to her and being walked on the beach.
‘There was nothing that made me think, at any time, that this was a temporary situation.’
She said the small pooch had separation anxiety and had eaten her way through a door when she left her with a friend at the start of the year.
‘All I’ve done is take a dog in and love her. I’d love to do the whole Eat, Pray, Love thing. I can’t do that because I have animals.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted both women for comment on the matter.
