AUS 20/2 (7.0 ov, AJ Finch 13*, Mohammad Abbas 2/9) – Stumps | Match Summary

5.15pm It’s stumps and what an eventful day we’ve had. Twelve wickets. Stunning display of spin bowling, a calculative 94 by a debutant, a masterclass in playing spin by a captain, bagful of tricks by a part-timer and then finally two late scalps by a real rockstar. All this means Pakistan have a slight edge at the end of what has been an enthralling day of Test cricket. Pakistan can walk off satisfied after the Test looked headed to the abyss at 57 for 5 one hour into the day after Sarfraz won a good toss.

Ibrarhunzai : “Can we have one more over from Abbas? Please, please, please.”

Remember, there’s turn and sharp turn, but the bounce has been consistent right through. Batting will be challenging and spinners will increasingly come into the picture as the Test progresses.

If today was anything to go by, we should be in for lots of fun tomorrow. There’s plenty of post-day coverage on ESPNcricinfo. Osman Samiuddin will bring you the Pakistan analysis, Daniel Brettig has Australia covered. Danyal Rasool has the match bulletin ready, so do dig in if you may have missed any portion of play. Hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage today. Until tomorrow, this is Shashank Kishore saying goodbye on behalf of Alex Malcolm.

First time in Abu Dhabi that 12 wickets have fallen on day one. Incredible, isn’t it?

Christian Thurs: “Calling it Pakistan ahead at the end of the day? Hmmm, 282 on a par 400+ wicket with Australia losing one recognized batsman. That’s quite the call. I’d say it’s Aus 65-35.”

Mohammad Abbas to Siddle, OUT, Siddle was expecting this to be outside off, but is suddenly rushed into defending it as the ball comes back in a long way to pin him plumb in front of middle. Shocking decision to not give it out on the field by umpire S Ravi. The height was never in doubt and hawkeye confirms this would’ve smashed into leg stump. Siddle has to go and Pakistan end the day on a high. What an end for them, Abbas has been terrific. What a rockstar.

PM Siddle lbw b Mohammad Abbas 4 (10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 40.00

huge, huge appeal off the last ball and they’ve reviewed.. This looked plumb to the naked eye. Well, well.

Abbas is the joint-second-fastest to 50 Test wickets

Yasir Shah to Finch, no run, drifting into middle and spinning away a wee bit, defended back towards the bowler.

Mohammad Abbas to Siddle, no run, full and angled in from wide of the crease, Siddle is half forward as he blocks

Siddle, the nightwatchman at No. 3

Mohammad Abbas to Khawaja, OUT, the decision to continue with Abbas has worked and Pakistan have a huge wicket, of the man who tormented them, who stonewalled them in Dubai. This is a length ball slipping down leg, Khawaja looks to tickle it fine and in the process gets some bat on it. Sarfraz instinctively moves to his right and dives full stretch to complete this one-handed grab. This is a big wicket, make no mistake. It’s that superhero Abbas, 50th Test wicket for him.

UT Khawaja c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Abbas 3 (13b 0x4 0x6) SR: 23.07

Umpire S Ravi is checking with his colleague to see if the catch was clean, that means he thinks there was surely some glove, a tickle. The soft signal is out.

Mohammad Abbas to Khawaja, no run, angles one in full on off stump, driven to extra cover.

Abbas to continue. I would’ve probably looked at bringing in Bilal Asif and have fielders around the bat. Two slips waiting for the edge. He’ll come from round the stumps.
