De Bruyn hits ton as Warriors and Titans draw

Cape Town – An 11th first-class century by Theunis de Bruyn was one of the few highlights on the final day of the 4-Day Domestic Series encounter between the Titans and Warriors with the weather-hit match ending in a draw at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Monday.

With only 33.2 overs possible on days two and three due to bad light and rain, there were nearly 60 sent down on day four as the hosts were initially bowled out for 267 – a first innings deficit of 40 – before the visitors replied with 166 for two.

Proteas batsman De Bruyn was the top scorer on the day with 103 (150 balls, 17 fours), but his performance was the only positive one in an otherwise below-par batting display by the champions.

Shaun von Berg struck 31 and Rivaldo Moonsamy hit 26 as their side succumbed in 70.3 overs.

Eight of the wickets were shared by Anrich Nortje (4/67) and Simon Harmer (4/71) as the visiting attack impressed. Sisanda Magala was the other wicket-taker with two for 52.

The in-form Eddie Moore and Yaseen Vallie then dominated for the Eastern Cape franchise with half-centuries of their own. After Clyde Fortuin (6) fell early on, Moore and Vallie added an attacking 140-run second wicket stand.

The former, who also made a century in the first innings, top-scored with 73 off 84 balls (9 fours, 1 six), with the latter ending not out with 69 off 80 deliveries (11 fours) with the match tailing out to a draw.
