Man sentence to prison for luring teens while posing as pop stars

A Connecticut man pretended to be various pop stars online in order to get girls to perform sex acts on Skype.

According to the Hartford Courant, John Eastman has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison as a result of his actions.

The 50-year-old was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release “for enticing minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct during online video chats,” according to an attorney’s office release obtained by the publication.

An investigation found that Eastman had collected sexually explicit images and videos from teenage girls between July and November 2012 while posing as Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and even YouTube sensation Sam Albert, according to court documents obtained by the Hartford Courant.

The investigation was launched after a Vermont woman told police her 11-year-old daughter and her friends had spoken with a man using the name “Harry.Styles888” on Skype.

She claimed the man asked the girls to pose in sexual positions, which they refused to do.

Investigators traced the IP address to the Waterbury, Conn., home at which Eastman had been residing.

He allowed authorities to search his home and granted access to his computer, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.

“I use the program Skype to chat with girls because you can use the web cam to video chat and see them while chatting,” he said in a written statement to police. “I like girls that are 14-years-old and have started to develop. Because of this, I made a couple of screen names on Skype that were names of members of the singing group One Direction.”

The statement detailed Eastman’s perverted requests for the young girls he chatted with, all of whom ranged in age from 12 to 15.

He also admitted to using previously recorded video of pop stars that had been uploaded to YouTube to deceive his victims.

When police searched his computer, Eastman had previously deleted hundreds of explicit images of children between the ages of 5 and 15 years old.

Investigators were able to recover those pictures.

Eastman reportedly has 31 previous convictions, dating as far back as 1998 at which time he was charged with risk of injury to a minor for having sexual contact with a 9-year-old.

He was placed on Connecticut’s sex offender registry for 10 years. Eastman was removed in 1998.
